Introduction

The aims and objectives of the MAA are to promote, encourage and develop all aspects of model aviation. We were very fortunate to have, until his passing , as our life president , the late and greatly missed than David Boddington who  probably did more for aero-modelling in the country than any other individual.  He had been an editor of numerous modelling magazines and  written many books on various aero-modelling subjects He also introduced many newcomers to the hobby of model aviation and had been involved with films and television drama series.

The MAA have our own training models fully equipped with R/C in both modes one and two. So if you are a complete novice and do not own a model yet, there is no reason why you cannot still Have-a-Go.  We  have trainer aircraft for gliding and helicopter disciplines and  all of the models are equipped with a Buddy-Box system, which allows the instructor to take control if you should find yourself in trouble. If you are already hand-on or learning a certain maneuver, then the experienced instructors are there to help. They are all dedicated flyers in their own right, and just love helping and promoting good safe flying.

The MAA have a working relationship with Thornwick Bay and Ladram Bay Holiday  Centre, which enable us to offer three annual holidays, the week after May day at Thornwick Bay, North Yorkshire, England and a week in early September again at Thornwick and another one in mid September at Ladram Bay, Devon, England.  Click here to see what the sites have to offer  Thornwick Bay, Ladram Bay.  The holidays have something to offer all the  family and so leave you free to come and go as you please.  The difference is that   during the day there are organised attractions for the modellers that only the MAA can offer in this form.  A fully stocked model shop is available for those little bits and pieces or complete kits and radio sets at a discounted price to MAA members.  For those of you who just want to fly your models there are numerous established flying locations to offer.  There is also on-site evening entertainment in the club just for enjoyment or to discuss ideas and pick other peoples brains.

The power-flying site for both holidays are situated within a few miles of the camps and they are flat, well maintained and established flying sites. There is a choice of several soaring sites available locally, which covers the majority of wind directions. Each flying site has its own instructors and supervisors , under the overall control of our Chief Flying Instructor and Chief Examiner. Indoor flight is carried out in the hall and, although this can be a fairly restricted area, indoor helicopters and a couple of fun fly designs have flown quite capably and safely.

In September 2006 the members voted to change the MAA into a holiday club for model flyers this means that really the only difference is that we no longer offer insurance as part of your membership cost, this in turn helps keep the cost of the membership down to a minimum but every thing else still stays the same as above. So all you have to do is contact us on the details below, book, turn up for the holiday and have fun.

Booking forms and information sheets for both events can be obtained by sending  an  A5 size SAE to:
